Juicing

I should add, while I briefly have computer access, I am now juicing fruits. This, with my bread making obsession (still going strong), are keeping me full of yummy food.

The juicing is great: go to the store, buy the fruit that is on sale (it is what is in season - unless it looks like crap), through it in the blender, pour, drink. You can't screw it up. Unless you put in too much lemon or lime... and I bet cranberries can do some damage too.

And you usually don't have to peel the fruit (except the pineapple *ouch*, and the banana).

I typically do: 1/3 pineapple, 1 banana, 1 apple, 1 cup of frozen or fresh berries, 1 orange, 1 of something else lying around and it makes just over a liter.

(Hmmmm, I just saw coconut in the products website.....)

Yum

Dead computer

2 weeks ago my laptop died, one week after the warranty expired. Expect another week without a computer (besides the work one which obviously has limited bogging access). Since my laptop died I have taken several photos I expect to post and we have been on 2 trips. So there will be a flurry of updates soon.

Baltimore and Bodies World

Went to Baltimore to see Body Worlds 2 today. Some guy found a way to 'plastinate' bodies, and has made a traveling show with a whole bunch of human bodies in various poses with various amounts of tissue removed. So there are skinned people, muscles only people, bones and ligaments people, blood vessels only people, nervous system only people......

I.E.: http://www.thetech.org/bodyworld/images/soccer_player_pic.jpg

Besides the guy with 6 fingers and toes, they stayed away from being a freak show. But they did show how some diseases and ailments (i.e.: arthritis), obesity and smoking manifested themselves in the body plus the stages of pregnancy.

My favorite parts were the blood vessels displays, and the heart with an artificial valve (the artificial knees, bone pins, and hip replacements were neat too).

Life size Parthenon built with books

Life size Parthenon built by Marta Minujin out of the books that were banned by the previous authoritarian government (assisted by the US) that ruled Argentina for 10 years (up to 1983).

After two weeks the books were removed by the people, putting the banned books back in rotation.

Rock and Roll

Experienced my first earthquake Tuesday. The epicenter was a couple miles from my office. Even at only 1.8 on the Richter scale it was enough the shake our computer monitors and get us out of our offices. It really made my day.
